Following a summer of sneak peeks and a fall filled with delays, Slate Table and Tap finally opened in mid-December. The upscale pub is the second Roswell restaurant from the owners and culinary team behind Indigo, which was forced to close for repairs in October due to an after-hours fire.

The look: Like many of the spots that have opened along Roswell's booming Canton Street restaurant row, Slate is located in a historic house. The original footprint has been made over into a series of tidy drinking and dining spaces that meander from a sidewalk patio to a cozy central bar area and an upstairs loft. In back, there's a private dining room, a heated enclosed porch and a deck.

The scene: After months of anticipation, Slate enjoyed a burst of pent-up demand, culminating in big crowds for the recent inaugural Roswell Restaurant Week. With eight HDTVs, it has already become a popular destination on game days. And a steady after-work and dinner business required hiring a valet service.

The menu: Consulting chef Todd Hogan, who also guided the kitchen at Indigo, put together a contemporary menu of pub grub with Southern and Southwestern touches. Starters include spicy pimento cheese with pita fries ($6.99) and Italian nachos with sausage and pepperoni ($10.99). There are five different mac-and-cheese variations ($6.99-$9.99), such as Mexican with chorizo and green chiles. A cured lamb Reuben ($12.99) is among the most popular sandwiches.

The drinks: With 18 taps and at least 30 more bottles, the beer list runs the gamut from selections such as Ommegang Abbey Ale ($6.95) and Sweetwater Festive Ale ($5.25) to Pabst Blue Ribbon ($2.95) and Mickey's Malt Liquor ($3.95). There are 30 wines by the glass, with Sofia Coppola sparkling in cans ($5.95) and Black Slate Garnacha ($15.95) on the high end. Look for daily cocktail specials, too.

The extras: Slate features live music on the weekends. Look for special events, such as an "anti-Valentine's Day" party on Feb. 14 and the first of a series of secret theme parties on Feb. 23.
