HD1

After reviewing HD1, I was never tempted to go back. Something about the place never quite worked. With its high-top communal tables and hipster bar outfitted with craft canned beer, the restaurant feels like a destination. But a hot dog isn’t a destination meal the way a hamburger is. HD1 is a restaurant that puts care and creativity into its cooking, and yet never manages to hit the hot dog button quite right.

Chicken night

At our house, we’ve fallen into a chicken night the way some families have taco night. Once a week, I load up a skillet with whatever vegetables we have and top them with a whole chicken for roasting. We usually eat the breast meat and veggies that night. I’ll pull the leg and thigh meat to save for chicken salad and use the bones to make stock.

Bella Cucina closes

Bella Cucina, the Atlanta-based gourmet foods business, has shuttered its doors. Owner Alisa Berry filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy back in January. Hopefully, we won’t have to say goodbye to an Atlanta food entrepreneur. But just in case, fans might want to stock up on those tasty pestos.
