Marietta native Robert Patrick gets to work close to his hometown given all of the movies filming here. He's appeared in "Trouble With the Curve" with Clint Eastwood, Amy Adams and Justin Timberlake, and "Identity Thief" with Jason Bateman and Melissa McCarthy and will be seen in Billy Bob Thornton's movie, "Jayne Mansfield's Car," to be released this year.

While filming "Jayne Mansfield's Car," also starring Kevin Bacon, John Hurt, Ron White and Robert Duvall, Patrick became acquainted with another Mariettan, Sam Huff. The movie's props director visited Huff's restaurant, Sam's BBQ-1 in east Cobb, ahead of filming and ordered a huge spread of chicken, ribs, deviled eggs, corn, slaw, peach pie and other delicacies. The vittles were meant to be props for a picnic scene filmed in LaGrange, but the cast and crew made short work of it all.

Patrick’s back in town to work on “Endless Love,” the remake of the 1980s teen romance, and stopped by to see his buddy Sam the other day to have some barbecue and display his tough-guy look that you might recognize from his role in the “Terminator” movies.

“Bob is going to try to get us to come to the set in a few weeks,” Huff said. “He wants to treat the crew to our barbecue.”

Lucky crew! By the way, "Endless Love," starring Gabriella Wilde and Alex Pettyfer in the lead roles originally played by Brooke Shields and Martin Hewitt, has been filming this week in a private home on Tuxedo Road and at the Atlanta International School.

Overscene

Michael Keaton, in Atlanta filming "Need for Speed," slowed down long enough to enjoy dinner at Davio's Wednesday night. The actor kept things low-key, sitting at the bar and dining on snapper with angel hair pasta and a glass of red wine. His movie, about street racers, is being directed by Scott Waugh and also stars Dominic Cooper, Aaron Paul and Dakota Johnson. The screenwriting team includes John Gatins, who also wrote the screenplay for "Flight," the Denzel Washington movie that filmed here and earned Washington an Oscar nomination.

Casting call PSA

Friends, there are tons of movies, television shows, commercials and videos being filmed in Atlanta these days, and casting calls for extras and stand-ins are very common. Unfortunately, this has evidently given bad guys some ideas. Legit casting directors will ask you to submit photos and descriptive information such as your height, weight, age or clothing sizes. If someone asks for a hefty "processing fee," or requires that you pay for some sort of "casting notice subscription," do like Dionne Warwick and walk on by. That's a scam.
