A dozen years have passed since Nick Cannon (long before Mariah Carey) starred in the Atlanta-based hit film "Drumline."

VH1 is bringing back a new version of "Drumline: A New Beat" as a TV movie set to air this fall.

Here's the descriptive:

"Drumline: A New Beat" will capture the sound and spirit of the first film while welcoming a whole new class to the Atlanta A & T drumline. The story follows Danielle (Dani) Bolton, an upper class Brooklyn girl who defies her parents in order to attend Atlanta A & T so she can join – and revitalize – their once-prominent drumline. Dani's quest to become the first female section leader of the drumline in the school's history will be hampered by upperclassmen (including her cousin, Tyree), her feelings for fellow band mate and rival, Jayven, and the school's crosstown competitors.

Letoya Luckett,Alexandra Shipp, Jordan Calloway, Jeff Pierre, Leonard Roberts, Jasmine Burke and Scott Shilstone are the main cast members. Cannon, as an executive producer, will make a cameo returning as original lead Devon Miles.

Given the short time frames involved, I expect production will start soon in Atlanta.

VH1 dropped Atlanta-based "Single Ladies" after three seasons (and was picked up by Centric) but is bringing on a new Atlanta-shot series called "Hindsight."

According to Hollywood Reporter, this is the first project greenlit by VH1′s new head of development Susan Levison. The series is set to debut in early 2015.

The 10-episode drama centers around Becca (Laura Ramsey) as she's about to get married a second time.  In hindsight, she thinks about her life's decisions and ends up back to the morning of her first wedding in 1995. I am not clear whether Atlanta will be the base of the show or it will masquerade as a different city.

Yup. It's another 1990s-based show. They seem to be popping up with more regularity. There was Fox's recently axed "Surviving Jack" (set in the early 1990s) and ABC's this week picked up "Fresh Off the Boat," set in 1994.
