For decades, Capt. Herb Emory was the comforting voice on News 95.5 and AM 750 WSB informing metro Atlantans how to get around our often hopeless daily traffic imbroglio.

Earlier this week, the WSB traffic team gathered at the state capitol to honor Emory, who died 15 months ago of a heart attack while helping out at a traffic accident. The fly-over ramp at I-85 and 400 was officially named after the beloved traffic reporter at a special dedication ceremony.

"I can't tell you what a tremendous honor this is, that the people of Atlanta would think so much of Herb," said Karen Emory, Capt. Herb's widow, who teared up.

Emory, who passed at age 61, worked in Atlanta radio for four decades, including 22 years at WSB.

WSB and the Atlanta Journal-Constitution are both part of Cox Media Group.

The Rock 100.5 morning show held a lesbian wedding today at Rock 'N Taco in Buckhead for Jennifer and Robyn Davis of Kennesaw in celebration of the fact gays can now get married in Georgia. The couple has been together for 19 years and have an eight-year-old son.

Former 99X jock Yvonne Monet was the DJ. "Southside Steve" Rickman presided. "There is no fear when you choose love," he said, referencing a song by Melissa Etheridge.

He then cited his own 418 previous conquests and the 419th he married -  just because. "This is an Eve-Eve-no-need-for-Steve kind of thing," he said.  He cited several Journey songs, too. "Always welcome each other with 'Open Arms,' he said.

And he had everyone say, "Yeah c'mon!" Of course.

Jennifer said she is a big fan of the station and Rickman going back to his 96rock days. She said, as for getting married, "I never thought it would happen in our lifetime."

"In this state!" Robyn added. (I noted it took the Supreme Court to do it.)

Jennifer said she never thought they would get the wedding. "I thought it would be fun," she said. "We weathered the storm. All our friends are divorced!"

Their secret of survival? Friendship and good communication, Robyn said.
