Season 14 runner-up Jax was diagnosed in April with thyroid cancer and had her thyroid and nearby lymph nodes removed,  according to mycentraljersey.com .

The story said she suffered respiratory and exhaustion issues on the show and tour before she found out she had cancer. She kept her condition under wraps for months.

"I'm a total insomniac and professional over-thinker/crazy person so this is hard for me either way. Cancer is a tricky topic," she said. "The doctors are very optimistic about a full recovery. They have actually been a lot of fun. One of them even made me homemade hummus. I was really lucky to score with such an awesome surgical/nuclear medicine team at Cornell. I was even luckier that so many of them watched my season of 'American Idol.' I go into the hospital every time with a smile on my face. Things could always be worse."

It sold 30,000 copies. In this day and age, that's not bad. Her last album in 2013 opened with 91,000 copies. The R&B album chart is only three years old. She has opened  in the top two for all five of her albums on the R&B/hip-hop chart.

She opened at No. 22 on the overall chart.

The lead single "No Time For It" was her 10th top 10 hit on the R&B chart. Her second single "Sleeping With the One I Love" is at No. 16.

Mariah Carey continues to malign her time on "American Idol" season 12. At the Television Critics Association promoting her upcoming  E! reality show "Mariah's World," she said  "it was the most abusive experience."

Kind of harsh, eh? Surely, dealing with Nicki Minaj is probably what drove her nuts.

"Idol" executive producer Nigel Lythgoe has a sense of humor about it now, telling Billboard: "I'm looking forward to Mariah's new series and wondering if Nicki Minaj may guest."
