Sparkie Martin, a local event promoter, informed me that his close friend and former V-103 host Porsche Foxx is suffering from a painful bone infection. He wrote me that she is immobile and in rehab at a health care center in Marietta.

She is "making baby steps," he wrote, in terms of recovery. "Walking better but with assistance."

Martin said if you want to send her well wishes, post on her Facebook page.

"I literally woke up and I couldn't walk," Foxx said in a follow-up interview. She said her doctors have  no explanation how it happens. "The good news is I'm healing. I'm improving on a walker. I'm on my way back."

Foxx - whose real name is Stephanie Calhoun - was a popular V-103 afternoon host from 1998 to 2004. Her favorite saying: "Let your haters be your motivators." She was very active in the community and built up a loyal fan base.

She lost her gig in late 2004 after a DUI charge, driving with a suspended license and marijuana possession. At the time, she denied anything was wrong but soon lost her job at the radio station. To make matters worse, her house burned down later that month in what was deemed an accident. "I went through more tragic things in 30 days than I think I have in 30 years," she said in 2007 at a press conference.

V-103 gave Foxx a second chance in 2007 at mid-days but she only lasted about 17 months despite keeping the station a solid No. 1 in ratings in her time slot. Her departure was murky. She claimed the station didn't treat her well after a breast-cancer scare but multiple sources at the time told me her second firing had to do with issues related to her drinking problem.

Foxx has since been doing Internet radio work, Martin said.
