Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Katie Walls is leaving the station for a job at Spectrum News North Carolina in Charlotte.

Her final day at WSB-TV is June 21. She starts at Spectrum Monday, June 29 forecasting the weather weekday mornings.

Station spokesman Sean Garcia confirmed the news Friday.

Walls, who is married to 11Alive reporter and anchor Ryan Kruger, joined the station in 2014.

In a statement released to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution Saturday, Walls said, “this was not an easy decision. Atlanta has been our home for six years. We came here as a couple and are leaving as a family with two beautiful boys. The friendships that we have made here will last a lifetime.”

She added: “When working at a powerhouse like WSB, we are all striving for the same excellence, and that develops a special bond. I am thankful for all that I have learned and grateful to my viewers for their support. This is not ‘goodbye’ but ‘we will see you later.’”

A West Virginia native, Walls graduated Florida State University with a bachelor’s degree in meteorology and Penn State with a master's in meteorology. Prior to WSB-TV, she worked at WINK in southwest Florida and WSIL in southern Illinois.

With his wife’s move, Kruger is leaving 11Alive as well.

“My last day is tomorrow night. I’ll be covering the protests downtown, as I have since they started on Friday,” he wrote Saturday in a Facebook Messenger note. “I’ll explore my options once we get to Charlotte. In the meantime, I’m going to enjoy this break and focus on being a dad and husband.”
