Former Regular Guy Eric Von Haessler will be launching his first weekly two-hour show on News 95.5 and AM 750 WSB beginning Sunday, January 25, at 1 p.m.

Von Haessler - who worked with Larry Wachs on and off on multiple radio stations from the mid-1990s through 2013 as part of the Regular Guys - joined WSB last year as a fill in for regular hosts such as  Mark Arum and Erick Erickson.

The new show, dubbed the "Von Haessler Doctrine," gives Von Haessler carte blanche to talk about anything he wants.

"It's unbelievable to me to have my own show on WSB!" he said. "I'm very excited.  They're really trusting me. I have complete creative control."

This means the success (or failure) of the show falls squarely on Von Haessler. "It's on me to deliver," said Von Haessler, who is 50. "I have no excuses."

Here's his first show in podcast form:

Von Haessler's show will take over the time slot that had previously aired Adam Goldfein's show, which moves to 11 a.m. Elyse Glink loses her weekend show as a result but she will remain active with the station. (Here's WSB's complete radio schedule.)

He said WSB program director Pete Spriggs is the best boss he's had since Gene Romano, who hired him and Wachs at 96rock in 1998. Spriggs "knows how to plan things properly. He knows how to encourage good work out of his talent."

And after working with Clear Channel and Cumulus, he marvels how nice everyone is in the Cox building. "It's amazing to walk into a room and be treated with respect. Maybe it's something I should expect but I didn't expect it."

Spriggs said when he listened to Von Haessler over the holidays sub in for Erickson, he left impressed. "He was able to connect with our listeners," he said. "He thinks like our listeners. He's the same age as a lot of our listeners. He has a lot of the same concerns. The more we can let Eric be Eric, the more people will enjoy the show."

He isn't sure how his first show will entail yet but Clark Howard will call in. "He's going to be in Buffalo for a funeral and he's taking time out to call in," Von Haessler said.

The show's name comes from his rants he would do during his fill-in shows, which he called the Haessler Doctrine. "It became a thing," he said.

He said he plans to focus on solutions, not just bitching and moaning. "The problem could be ISIS or parenting or Justin Bieber. Enough about talking points. This will be the Von Haessler world according to Eric. It's going to be funny but we'll tackle serious issues."

He isn't a fan of the State of the Union address. "It's idiotic," he said. "It's a big campaign speech. And all that stupid clapping! It's like something you'd see in Communist Russia!"

Von Haessler's Libertarian principles will be at play. "You don't need the president to get you a job," he said. " You don't need your Seantor to get your life in order. We'll talk politicians not as saviors or enemies."

His producer Jared Yamamoto also works with Erickson. Crystal Wheeler and English Nick from the River will help him out, too.

During the rest of the week, Von Haessler will continue to do his own podcasts, which he hasn't been able to monetize but has kept him sharp and draw thousands of weekly listeners. (You can check out his other fare here.)

He said he is no longer bitter about Wachs, who he felt earlier had thrown him under the bus and made his life miserable his final couple of years with the Regular Guys.

He said he now has "positive feelings" over his nearly two decades as a Regular Guy, which was largely a big success and earned him a healthy income for many years.

At the same time, he is no longer in contact with Wachs either.

When Wachs lost his job last month with Rock 100.5, the two did not correspond in any way.

"Larry and I have no reason to be in each other's lives," Von Haessler said. "Not right now."

He said he hopes whatever future talk show job Wachs gets down the road, "he learns to build a team and be someone that people want to follow."
