Bert Show's Kristin Klingshirn (surprise!) engaged to Bart Mattingly

By RODNEY HO/, originally Monday, March 7, 2016

Kristin Klingshirn of the Bert Show has been teased incessantly over the years about her relationship with Bart Mattingly.

The couple have been together for nearly a decade and even in the social mores of today, that's a long time to go without being engaged and/or married. For a long time, Kristin said they were fine just being together minus the nuptials or ring.

But shocker! He proposed over the weekend.

Bert Weiss on air sounded stupefied. "This is the last thing we would have expected," he said.

Yet she kept it a secret from the entire show for two hours before informing the world. "I've known you for years and you don't have a good poker face," he said.

Bart painted on a piece of wood, "Will you marry me?" The room lit up in Christmas lights and he went down on one knee. Her first thought: "I have no bra on... I haven't brushed my teeth today. And I have Chipotle breath." He asked and she said yes.

"It was so us," she said. "We embrace and I'm staring at the ring, freaking out. I give him a big kiss."

Bart, on air, explained that "we've been having a conversation over the last year. Do we want to get married? Do we want to have kids?" If they choose to have kids, she wanted to be married.

So Bart decided to clear the marriage issue by proposing.

"He has been my biggest cheerleader and supporter... He's always had my back... I'm where I am because of him," she said. "We didn't need an engagement or marriage to prove that. But this past year, the conversations we've had about having a family and our future, I honestly never thought I'd feel this way about being engaged. I didn't think it was a big deal... It feels pretty damn good."
