Blame the Force.
Donald Glover's commitments to the Han Solo "Star Wars" film has forced him to push back the return of FX's "Atlanta" to 2018.
Glover is playing Lando Calrissian. “Lando’s a big deal to me,” he said at the Golden Globes on Sunday. “It was literally the first toy I ever got.”
The delay was announced today during the Television Critics Assocation press junket.
"Atlanta," which debuted this past fall for 10 episodes, received two Golden Globe wins for best comedy and best actor in a comedy for Glover, who is also the creator behind the show.
Although the show only drew about 1 million viewers overnight per episode, those numbers got bumped up to 4.84 million viewers over time across multiple platforms. The audience is also relatively young.
Despite his busy schedule, Glover has signed a deal with FX Productions to develop other series for the company.
A delay of this magnitude is not unusual nowadays. FX's "Louie" created by Louie C.K. is also on an extended break. And Amy Schumer's "Inside Amy Schumer" is on a similar hiatus.
