Andy Cohen, who oversees the "Housewives" franchise on Bravo, explained on his on-line show "Ask Andy" why Porsha Williams was reduced to "recurring" status from full-time "Housewife" mode.

For him, it was simple: she didn't provide enough interesting story lines.

"It had nothing to do with anything that happened at the reunion last season," Andy tells his assistant Daryn, referring to the fight Porsha had with Kenya Moore during the reunion show earlier this year. "Really, it was about the amount of story we got from Porsha this season. We went into it assuming she would be a full housewife, holding a peach. We just haven't gotten enough to merit that. She's going to be in it a lot. We love her. I hope she'll be on Bravo endlessly."

I was told partway through the summer that Claudia Jordan was only going to be recurring but she was moved up to full time, so clearly she was far more compelling than Demetria McKinney, who enters as a recurring character as well though there were intentions to make her full time.

Claudia and Porsha now split duties on Rickey Smiley morning show. Claudia is on the radio show. Porsha is on "Dish Nation."  I get the impression they are competitors, not buddies.

Porsha expressed surprise and disappointment last month by the demotion. The show returns November 9.

Other housewife castmates were shocked, too. Kandi Burruss on Facebook included this hashtag: #‎ IWasJustAsShockedAsYou‬
