Clay Aiken campaigned in San Francisco to raise money for his underdog effort to become a House representative in a Republican-favored district in North Carolina. He is facing off against an incumbent Renee Ellmers.

According to the San Francisco Gate,  "Aiken's speech to the crowd at Catch lasted 15 minutes without missing a beat on education, interest-free student loans, veterans support, his pre-Idol past working with disabled children, and why he's seeking a seat in Congress now. Clay Aiken made articulate, well-rounded points. I don't mean to sound shocked, but this is the guy who got beat by Arsenio Hall on the Celebrity Apprentice."

The season 14 judges on "Idol" are now in New Orleans.

I appreciate the honesty of hometown boy Harry Connick Jr. He said day one of auditions was just "okay" and hoped for more day two.

Chart update:

Right now, "Idol" alums are doing especially well on the Christian pop chart.

The second "American Idol' contestant to hit No. 1 on the Christian chart is Danny Gokey (after Mandisa last year with "Stronger"). Gokey's song "Hope in Front of Me" is his first Christian single and it's a huge hit. Congratulations Danny!

Speaking of Mandisa, her latest "Back to You" is at No. 11 while Colton Dixon's "More of You" as at No. 17.

Country chart: "Somethin' Bad" with Miranda Lambert and Carrie Underwood is at No. 13 on the Mediabase chart with upward momentum.

"Feelin' It" Scotty McCreery is stuck at No. 28.

Hot AC: "Battleships" Daughtry is at No. 29, with modest upward movement.  Phillip Phillips' new song "Unpack Your Heart" is at No. 43 with his latest new single.
