In typical Prince fashion, his return to "Saturday Night Live" this weekend will defy the conventional setup of the show.

Instead of performing two musical spots – as happens every week – Prince will play one eight-minute long jam session with no commercial interruption. He will be backed by his all-female band, 3RDEYEGIRL (guitarist Donna Grantis, bassist Ida Nielsen, and drummer Hannah Ford Welton).

Prince hasn’t announced which song will get the super-set treatment.

The performance will mark Prince’s first appearance on “SNL” since February 2006, and comes after the release of two new albums, “Art Official Age” and “Plectrumelectrum.”

This week’s host, onetime “SNL” player Chris Rock, is making his return to the show after an 18-year gap since his last hosting stint. His one request was for Prince to be the musical guest.
