It might be the saddest sound ever to come out of Doppler Studios.
An Atlanta legend for nearly half a century — the music mecca on Piedmont Circle where Beyonce and Aerosmith recorded and Kanye and Akon held exclusive listening parties — said this week it's shutting down for good.

"After some 46 years of happy times and countless sound recordings, Doppler Studios is closing," a note posted on Doppler's Facebook page and signed by the owners and staff read. It gave no reason for the closing, but ended with a quote from "Toy Story's" Buzz Lightyear: "To infinity and beyond!"
Buzz may have been about the only well-known or soon-to-be star not to turn up at Doppler in Atlanta. The genre-busting roster of acts who recorded there includes Aretha Franklin, Pearl Jam, OutKast, the B-52s, Mariah Carey, Usher and Stevie Wonder.
But it wasn't just musicians laying down tracks there. Over the years, Doppler also was where TV shows on Cartoon Network ("Boondocks"), FX ("Archer") and other networks went for sound design and surround mixing, authors like Pearl Cleage and Jimmy Carter recorded audiobooks and major businesses and cultural institutions such as the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra did commercial voiceovers and soundtracks.
Doppler's management hasn't yet given a specific closing date, but said in the Facebook post that it won't take on new work past June 10.
