Killer Mike has been a vocal, passionate activist throughout the presidential election, and while his loyalties always remained with Bernie Sanders , he also expected Hillary Clinton to prevail in the race.

On Wednesday morning, the Atlanta rapper chatted with the panel on talk show “The Real” and shared his thoughts about why Donald Trump’s victory shouldn’t be such a shock.

“Even though I was not a Hillary supporter, I had always said, publicly, ‘I think she's gonna win,’ or if she says something directly to my community, I'd jump on side with her,” he told the show’s Adrienne Bailon, Loni Love, Jeannie Mai, Tamera Mowry, and Ashanti. “I didn't think it'd be this close, but I knew people were mad.”

Killer Mike said he believes that the Republican Party was able to appeal to the poor, white population of the country by giving the “illusions” of patriotism, white supremacy and other ideologies.

“I saw people that look like me and you say they were voting Trump, and that scared me. That scared me a lot,” he said, later adding, “I think poor people got angry. And I think that there happen to be, by this country, more poor, angry, white people.”
