Juan Gabriel was slated to be one of the growing number of Latin music acts to play Atlanta's Philips Arena this year, with a show scheduled for Nov. 20.

But on Sunday, the Mexican music icon, who sold more than 100 million albums worldwide in his 40-year career, died of a heart attack at his home in California , two days after a sold-out show in Los Angeles.

Gabriel, 66, was only a week into his 22-city “MeXXIco Es Todo Tour.”

Gabriel’s son, Ivan Aguilera released this statement Monday night:  “My father’s untimely passing is a tragic loss for all of us, his family, colleagues, and fans alike. We give heartfelt thanks for the outpouring of condolences we have received from around the world including from President Enrique Pena Nieto. We know that our father will miss entertaining his countless fans, who brought him tremendous joy in life.”

Those holding tickets to Gabriel’s Nov. 20 concert will receive a refund via Ticketmaster.com or at their point of purchase.
