John Prine’s family has shared that the folk legend has been hospitalized since Thursday with symptoms related to the coronavirus.

In a statement on Twitter, the family didn’t specify Prine’s exact condition, other than to say, “his situation is critical.”

“He was intubated Saturday evening and continues to receive care,” the family said.

On March 20, Prine’s wife, Fiona, was diagnosed positive with the virus, but told fans on Instagram that the couple was quarantined and isolated from each other.

Prine, 73, has suffered through a couple of bouts of cancer, including in the late ‘90s and then in 2013 when he announced he had an operable “non-small cell carcinoma” in his left lung.
