The band also set the record for the highest-grossing event in the arena’s history (which had actually just been established with the May 11 Justin Timberlake show at the venue ).
More than 12,000 people attended the Live Nation-promoted Memorial Day concert – U2’s first visit to Atlanta since 2009 – played in one of the most intimate venues on their “Experience + Innocence” tour.
The show reportedly grossed about $2.6 million.
“We are incredibly grateful for the opportunity to host a renowned band like U2,” said Joey Dennis, general manager at Infinite Energy Center. “It was an unbelievable show which marked a historic moment for both the venue and for the community.”
U2’s 30th anniversary tour of “The Joshua Tree” album was the highest grossing of 2017, selling more than 2.17 million tickets and taking in $136 million over 50 shows.
Infinite Energy Arena has enjoyed an impressive run of its own. In the past year, the venue has hosted major shows from Paul McCartney , Roger Waters, Kendrick Lamar and Ed Sheeran, among many others.
Upcoming concerts include Shania Twain on June 4; Harry Styles June 11; Daryl Hall and John Oates and Train on June 20; and Tim McGraw and Faith Hill on June 23.
