The Super Bowl is apparently sticking with current pop stars instead of classic rockers with the crowning of Coldplay as the halftime entertainment for Super Bowl 50.
The NFL is expected to officially announce the British superstars as the 2016 choice during Thursday night’s game between the Green Bay Packers and Detroit Lions.
Given the numerical significance of this year’s Super Bowl, the show will likely spotlight many big names. Bruno Mars, who performed at Super Bowl XL VIII in New Jersey, is reportedly coming back, and artists including Taylor Swift and Maroon 5 are still being discussed.
Coldplay has no shortage of hits they could perform – “Viva La Vida,” “Every Teardrop is a Waterfall,” the new “Adventure of a Lifetime” if they’re sticking with uptempo material (and we would all prefer that) – and their new album, “A Head Full of Dreams” arrives Dec. 4.
The Super Bowl will take place at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif., on Feb. 7.
Beyonce appears on the band's new album and, according to the Wall Street Journal , is also in talks to make an appearance during Coldplay's performance. No word if Left Shark will be back for an encore.
