My countdown to the start of NFL season began sometime in March.
Now that we’re eight days out and my fantasy football drafts are almost complete, I can start reveling in the reality that the season is about to break.
Another key indicator? The annual announcement about the “Waiting All Day for Sunday Night” theme song.
Carrie Underwood returns for the third year and will give a sneak peek of the opening when she visits Jimmy Fallon on Sept. 10 (the season launches earlier that night when the Steelers play the Patriots, but the first Sunday night game is Sept. 13 with the Giants and Cowboys, with coverage starting at 7 p.m. on NBC).
Underwood will also perform her new single, “Smoke Break.”
But back to the really important stuff – i.e., football.
This year, 11 NFL players will join Underwood in the opening montage. Check out the list (the ones with an asterisk took part in a shoot in June):
- New York Giants WR Odell Beckham, Jr.*
- Dallas Cowboys WR Dez Bryant*
- Seattle Seahawks S Kam Chancellor*
- San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick
- Indianapolis Colts QB Andrew Luck*
- Green Bay Packers LB Clay Matthews*
- Philadelphia Eagles RB DeMarco Murray*
- Arizona Cardinals CB Patrick Peterson*
- Denver Broncos DE DeMarcus Ware
- Houston Texans DE J.J. Watt
- Seattle Seahawks QB Russell Wilson*
