Atlanta Concerts this week: Michelle Shocked, Bobby Brown

The indie alt-folk rocker is playing a residency at City Winery locations throughout the country this summer with special shows focusing on her 1988 debut, “Short Sharp Shocked.” The album’s cover, a news photo of a squatter arrested in a San Francisco protest, complemented Shocked’s brazen material. Though never a mainstream darling, she did flirt with the Billboard charts with the song “Anchorage” from that fearless debut record.

Departure

After a decade together, the Atlanta-based Journey tribute band has solidified its reputation as one of the best in the country. The five members have been together since the inception of Departure (named for Journey’s 1980 album that featured keyboardist Gregg Rolie for the last time), and they crafted a show that replicates the look, sound and feel of the MTV-era supergroup. Fronted by singer Brian Williams, the band regularly produces a two-hour performance stocked with hits, including “Any Way You Want It,” “Faithfully” and “Open Arms.”

Centennial Olympic Park’s Fourth of July Celebration

Start practicing those "Every Little Step" dance moves;– Bobby Brown is headlining Centennial Olympic Park's annual Fourth of July Celebration. Brown will be joined on the lineup by former Sounds of Blackness lead singer Ann Nesby, CeCe Peniston (best known for her '90s hit song, "Finally") and Sugarland's Kristian Bush. Other musicians slated to perform include JFly and Friends, Algebra Blessett, Chelsea Shag, Darlene McCoy and Jordan Bolch. The event will air on WSB-TV, with news anchor Jovita Moore, sports anchor Zach Klein as hosts. KISS 104.1-FM's Sasha the Diva will also be on hand. This year, the Georgia World Congress Center Authority, which owns and operates the 21-acre park, partnered with Lenox Square to combine their popular fireworks shows.
