BY MELISSA RUGGIERI
It feels like a lot longer than three years since D'Angelo last visited Atlanta ( here's my review of his opening gig for Mary J. Blige at Chastain ).
But the elusive R&B star is heading back on the road for a 14-city solo tour in support of his "Black Messiah" album, released at the end of 2014 (to call it "long-awaited" doesn't seem to do it justice).
D’Angelo and The Vanguard will perform at The Tabernacle at 8 p.m. June 14. Tickets are $60.50 for general admission standing on the floor and $87.50-$127.50 for balcony reserved seating.
Tickets will go on sale at 10 a.m. May 1 at www.ticketmaster.com, www.tabernacleatl.com, 1-800-745-3000 and at the venue box office on show nights.
Members of The Vanguard joining D'Angelo on "The Second Coming" tour are bassist Pino Palladino ( currently on tour with The Who ), guitarists Jesse Johnson and Isaiah Sharkey, drummer Chris "Daddy" Dave, keyboardist Cleo "Pookie" Sample and vocalists Kendra Foster, Charlie "Red" Middleton and Jermain Holmes.
