An Atlanta student is among 15 finalists for a $250,000 scholarship for an explanatory science video he created.
Westminster Schools student Yash Kadadi, 15, earned the slot for a three-minute video explaining the Higgs Field for the Breakthrough Junior Challenge. The winner will be announced Dec. 3.
While the winner receives a $250,000 college scholarship, the science teacher who inspired the student earns a $50,000 cash prize. The winner's school will also receive a state-of-the-art science lab valued at $100,000.
Yash's video was among 3,200 submissions to the contest, which was begun to spur creative thinking about fundamental concepts in the life sciences, physics, or mathematics.
The contest is funded by Mark Zuckerberg and Priscilla Chan, and Yuri and Julia Milner, through the Breakthrough Prize Foundation, based on a grant from Mark Zuckerberg’s fund at the Silicon Valley Community Foundation, and a grant from the Milner Global Foundation.
