Dish of the Week: Oyster Happy Hour at Kimball House in Decatur.

If you are an oyster lover, you probably already know that Kimball House in Decatur is the go-to destination in metro Atlanta.

But you may sometimes forget that from 5 until 7 p.m. Mondays-Fridays, Oyster Happy Hour is what's happening, with most selections available for roughly half-price.

Doing the arithmetic, that means a briny-rich, $3.25 Peter’s Point oyster from Buzzard’s Bay, Massachusetts is only $1.65.

It also means that for two hours after opening, Kimball becomes a convivial hub of slurping, sipping and socializing, as friends and neighbors gather around the curving wooden bar rail.

Of course, Kimball House’s resident oyster expert, Bryan Rackley, is the man behind all this goodness.

Rackley has a great passion for oysters from near and far, including a zeal for farmed Gulf oysters . He curates the best, offering some 20 appellations on the daily raw bar list, with playful descriptions of the flavors and textures. And he makes sure that each oyster is properly stored, shucked and served.

Beyond that, there’s always something good to drink, be it bubbly, beer, classic absinthe service, or a bracing cocktail, such as the signature Kimball House.
