The fresh flavors of gardening and the cuisine of Africa come together for the Sundowners & Supper event; a fundraiser for the Atlanta-based nonprofit Development in Gardening (DIG). The organization's mission creates sustainable gardens in East Africa by addressing nutrition and the quality of life for communities of at-risk groups, like those affected by HIV.

The non-profit’s programmatic work takes place in East Africa, where they develop gardens and then teach the communities how to source from their gardens through cooking and nutrition classes. The Sundowners & Supper event raises awareness and draws financial support for these and other gardening initiatives.

Six chefs are evoking dishes from the tastes of Africa; Taqueria del Sol-Eddie Hernandez, One Flew South-Duane Nutter, Yummy Street-Russ Pysell, soon to open Asante-Marvin Woods, Steinbeck's-Andy Gonzales, and Porkman’s Table-Ben Portman.

The event is Sunday, November 16 from 5-7 p.m. Famed Atlanta chef, television host and culinary author Virginia Willis will emcee the event. Live and silent auctions will also raise funds for the organization's 2015 initiatives. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit DIG's event page.
