On Nov. 10, celebrity chef Marvin Woods will premiere Asante Restaurant and Lounge in the downtown Atlanta space formerly occupied by Peasant Bistro. The concept will feature Woods' "decades of experience cooking, traveling and studying global influence of the African diaspora." Woods is known as the TV host of "Home Plate," author of cookbooks "Home Plate Cooking" and "The New Low Country," and lead chef for first lady Michelle Obama's "Let's Move" campaign.

Illegal Food opening in December

Illegal Food , the former pop-up in the kitchen at Joystick Gamebar, is scheduled to open its first full-service restaurant in early December in the Virginia-Highland space recently occupied by Bar Meatball. Though Illegal is beloved for hefty burgers, such as cult favorite "The Hank," the new menu will include appetizers, sandwiches, entrees and desserts, plus craft beer and cocktails and a featured bourbon list. The restaurant space includes a seated bar and covered patio.

Decatur’s Marbar has new owner

Recently shuttered Marbar Beachside Cantina in Decatur has a new owner and a new concept. Deborah VanTrece, executive chef/owner of the Catering Company by VanTrece, is set to take over the troubled Mexican restaurant, which reopened in May after a five-month hiatus then closed again in late October, and replace it with an eatery called Twisted Soul. “I have been working on this for some time, since I closed my restaurant, Edible Art Cafe in East Atlanta,” VanTrece said. “I am so excited to bring my Southern flair to the Decatur area.”
