2 metro Atlanta restaurants are collecting donated goods to take to Puerto Rico

Looking for a way to help those impacted by Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico?

Two local restaurants are making it easy to get involved. Buen Provecho Restaurant in Marietta and Porch Light Latin Kitchen in Smyrna are accepting donations through Saturday. On Sunday, items will be loaded onto cargo planes bound for Puerto Rico.

Items to consider donating include:

2. Insect repellent

3. Ziploc bags with travel sized toiletries

4. Canned goods (preferably those with a pull top opening)

5. Powdered milk

6. Hand-sanitizer

7. Batteries (especially C and D)

8. Baby formula

9. Children's diapers

10. Adult diapers

11. Baby wipes

12. First aid kits

13. Non prescription medicine (for children and adults)

14. Cleaning supplies

15. Feminine hygiene products

16. Duct tape

17. Trash bags

18. Disposable silverware

19. Sheets

20. Towels

21. Battery powered fans

22. Gloves

Elmer Passapera, owner of Buen Provencho, told WSB-TV that he hasn't been able to reach his family in Puerto Rico and wanted to do something to help.

"I said we had to do something, wanted to do something," he said. We will continue to collect, and this will be an ongoing effort and we will stop when people stop donating."

Andre Gomez, owner and chef at Porch Light, is also making his restaurant a drop-off site for donations.

Goods can be brought to either restaurant during normal business hours (11:30 a.m.-8 p.m. today, 11:30- 9 p.m. Friday-Saturday at Buen Provecho and 11:45 a.m.-2:30 p.m. today and Friday, Noon-3 p.m. Saturday and 5:30-10 p.m. today-Saturday at Porch Light Latin Kitchen).
