A little more than a year after it opened , LottaFrutta has closed its doors at Alpharetta mixed use development Avalon.

The eatery -- which is known for serving up fruit cups, smoothies, paletas (popsicles) sandwiches and salads -- opened on July 4, 2015 and closed Oct. 28. LottaFrutta's original location, at 590 Auburn Ave. NE in Old Fourth Ward, remains open.

North American Properties, which operates Avalon, released a statement regarding the closure:

"The recent closing of LottaFrutta provides us with an opportunity to welcome an exciting new concept that better resonates with the North Fulton market. There’s significant interest in the space due to its premier location next to the region’s top performing Marlow’s Tavern. As Avalon continues to grow, we will continue to refine our merchandising strategy to offer a best-in-class retail and restaurant mix."

The closure comes amidst several new openings at Avalon as part of an expansion project.

The expansion will include several other new dining options , including Rumi's Kitchen, Barleygarden Craft Kitchen and Bar, MF Bar, District 3 and Brine Fish House, and popular ice cream chain Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams will open a scoop shop in April 2017.

Additional retail businesses include Brooks Brothers, Urban Outfitters and Boogaloos. Office and living space will include The Hotel at Avalon and the Alpharetta Conference Center, which will open in early 2018.

There are also new restaurants and retail that have opened or are set to open this year as part of the development's Phase I , including Farm to Ladle, which also has a Ponce City Market location and opened over the summer , and Cafe Intermezzo, which has locations in Dunwoody and Midtown Atlanta and is set to open at the end of this month.
