After several delays, a plea for cash from fans, and a series of friends and family events, Illegal Food is finally opening tonight in the former Bar Meatball space in Virginia-Highland.

Chef/owner Steven Lingenfelter is butchering Brasstown Beef for dry-aged, grass-fed burgers and weekly specials that will range from beef tartare and charcuterie to steaks and oxtail.

The Hank ($12 single/$16 double), Lingenfelter's most famous burger creation, is on the menu, along with the likes of The Nasty Nate, The Fungus Among Us, The Banh Mi, and The Warden’s Burger, which tops out at $16.

Also on the menu, hand-cut fries, including the Okonomiyaki Style ($10) with Japanese mayo, Okonomiyaki sauce, fermented chili sauce, bonito flakes, shredded nori, green onion, sesame seed, and beni shoga.

On the beverage menu, find craft beer on draft, a concise wine list, and house cocktails, including a $25 martini made with Monkey 47 Gin.

1044 Greenwood Ave. N.E., Atlanta, 404-228-8954.
