The second Sundown Series at Westside Provisions District on Wednesday, May 28 celebrates local successes in a fusion of food, music, and film.
FOOD: Chef-owner Anne Quatrano, a dominant fixture to the district's restaurant scene, offers snack boxes and fresh produce at the evening's pop-up shop. From 6 to 7 p.m., Quatrano will sign copies of her debut cookbook "Summerland: Recipes for Celebrating with Southern Hospitality." Preserving Place's culinary manager Emma Weldon will be in the space's kitchen demoing how to make strawberry jam. Westside's dining spots, including Star Provisions, Yeah! Burger, West Egg Café, Ormsby's and Taqueria del Sol, will be offering take-out selections.
MUSIC: On the second level of Westside's central courtyard, Rolling Nowhere performs live music. The North Georgia born band's sound is hard to put a finger on, but it has been described as "junkyard roots, old-timey folk and psychedelic rock and roll." The wide array of instrumentation includes a "canjo," an upright percussion instrument.
FILM: The food-centric evening chronicles the innovative personal journeys of food culture in two short award-winning feature films. "Speakeasy Supper Club" is an endearing exposition of the creators of Atlanta's own PushStart Kitchen- Better Half's chef Zach Maloy and his wife Christina. The supper club is a "southern speakeasy serving the world, ten people at a time." Following is the film "Eating Alabama," the intimate journey of a couple who commits to eating seasonally and locally.
IF YOU GO: The Sundown Series is the last Wednesday of each month beginning at 5 p.m. Future dates are June 25 and July 30. The film begins at sundown. Guests are suggested to bring chairs or blankets to sit on the lawn. For more information and for a full Sundown Series schedule, please visit the Facebook page.
