Check out the 2016 AJC Spring Dining Guide: All Things Brunch on April 14!

Love may not cost a thing, but dining out is a different story.

Fortunately, breaking the bank is unnecessary when you and your date can dive into generously portioned breakfast or lunch servings for under $30.

Egg Harbor Café in Buckhead is a casual restaurant with a laminated menu book (it flips like a spiral bound storybook), but don't let that fool you—it's not chintzy at all. The menu options are robust—from myriad egg dishes to pancakes to sandwiches and soups.

During a recent visit with le date, I ordered a special combination—three blueberry pancakes, chicken sausage and eggs, which were 100-percent free-range, certified humane. I especially liked the eggs. The platter was $11.99, inclusive of a dollar up-charge for the blueberries. A gal's gotta drink, so I opted for a 12-ounce fresh orange-strawberry medley, which turned out to be very tasty.

Let me back up a second. There was a short wait before we were seated and le date had spied a complimentary coffee container. He helped himself. Since he was still sipping on the coffee when we were seated, he decided not to buy a beverage. For the record, a cup of coffee is $2.69 and unlimited. When it was time to order food, le date selected the newest menu addition, a hormone- and antibiotic-free half-pound grass-fed burger topped with lettuce, tomato, onions and pickles plus a side of roasted red potatoes and a salad, all for $11.99.

When we were presented with the bill, it tallied to just under $30 and was accompanied by a pair of individually wrapped soft chocolate mint candies. The latter is free and if you ask, you can have a handful.

Besides the obvious wallet-friendly price, the service at Egg Harbor was great. The wait staff is very attentive. Patio seating along Peachtree Street is an option. And, the colored pencils at the table, which are supposed to be for kids, is great for adults who want to write little love notes while sipping lemon-flavored water. A carafe of the latter is also at every table.

A tip brought our total to just above $30, but it was well worth it. We walked in famished and walked out full.

Egg Harbor has three locations in metro Atlanta—Buckhead, Sandy Springs and Johns Creek and opens from 6:30 a.m. – 2 p.m. every day.
