Hard to believe, but Memorial Day is right around the corner - the first official holiday of summer. Have you decided what to cook for friends and family?

Karv Premium Meat Delivered to Your Door

You could drive all over town searching out great meat for your Memorial Day grilling, or you can have it delivered right to your door. We tried Karv, a new meat subscription service, impressed with the idea of receiving a box of U.S. born and raised grass-fed and finished Angus beef, organic free-range chicken and heritage pork. We don’t know how they do it, but the packaging is so well designed that each package of meat is a very compact bundle and that means it takes up less room in your freezer. When you thaw the meat, you’ll find each cut is perfectly trimmed. No work needed on your part except to cook it and enjoy. Karv also offers prepared oven-ready entrees and we sampled the beef pinwheel, a flank steak rolled around mozzarella made from grass-fed milk and organic spinach. So easy to cook and a pleasure to serve.

Subscription plans start at $99 per month. Karv is offering a 20 percent discount for any orders received by May 28, 2018. Available at http://karvmeals.com .

Joe’s Gourmet Fish Fry

Did you catch Atlanta residents Joe and Maranda Dowell on Shark Tank or most recently on Good Morning, America? It's how they're getting out the word about their delicious fish fry seasoning mix. We tried the mix on shrimp and on perch, following package directions to dip the seafood in an egg wash and then into their mix. We found it had just the right amount of salt and we thought we caught a hint of the Dowell's New Orleans history in the seasonings. The fish fry stayed on the seafood perfectly with no blobs of batter or bits of crust to make a mess of the cooking oil. Their website has a recipe for fried green tomatoes and we can't wait for the first green tomatoes of the season so we can give it a try.

$3.89 per 16-ounce bag. Available at Publix and Kroger in the local foods section, Walmart.com and Amazon. http://joesgourmet.com

Les Trois Petits Cochons Grilling Gift Basket

Whether it’s a gift for yourself or for the folks you’re visiting for the holiday weekend, you cannot go wrong with the Grilling Gift Basket from Les Trois Petites Cochons (which is French for “the three little pigs”). We knew this company as a charcuterie in Greenwich Village from way back when. Now they offer mail order delivery of their pâtés, terrines, sausages and more. We tried the lamb merguez sausage and chicken andouille. Great spicing, perfect texture and what could be easier on the grill than sausage? Just thaw it, grill it and done. The grilling gift basket includes five pounds of sausage, two mustards and a jar of cornichons, those piquant French pickles that are just the right accompaniment to rich meats.

$95.99 for a wooden gift basket with sausages and condiments. Available at http://3pigs.com.
