Last week, Atlanta's New Realm Brewing unveiled a new beer in collaboration with Atlanta popsicle makers King of Pops. The first in the brewery's "Push Cart Series," BGL Belgian Ale is a summer refresher flavored with King of Pops blackberry, ginger, lemon popsicle base.

And in honor of that cool combination, it’s this week’s Beer Pick

Profile

The first offering in New Realm’s new “Push Cart Series,” BGL is fun summer refresher flavored with King of Pops blackberry, ginger, lemon popsicle base. It pours a pretty amber-pink, with a bubbly while head that quickly dissipates. As you would expect, the flavor is intensely fruity and bright, with an easy-drinking sweet and sour combination that finishes with a hint of hop bitterness. At 7.2% alcohol, a couple of pints can sneak up on you.

At a release party, guest were encouraged to dunk a King of Pops blackberry, ginger, lemon popsicle in their pint of BGL. I was pleasantly surprised by the result. As the popsicle melted in the glass, it not only kept the beer cold, it added an additional touch of sweetness. Besides a popsicle, I might try it with soft, creamy cheese or cheesecake.
