Good Word Brewing in Duluth celebrates its somewhat belated first anniversary on Saturday.

The party will feature a big selection of beers on draft and in casks, including stouts, sours, IPAs, lagers and Belgian and British-style ales.

The kitchen will be offering the Top 10 favorites from the first year’s menu, including the GWB cheeseburger, mole empanadas, Baller Board cheese and charcuterie, and banana pudding, along with a special roasted pork plate.

Families and kids are encouraged from 11:30 a.m.-5 p.m. and after 7 p.m. there will be a live music from the Geeks.

In addition to becoming a destination brewpub, Good Word has been distributing many of its beers around metro Atlanta. You can often find them on draft at places like Argosy, Ale Yeah, Brick Store Pub, Hop City, Summits Wayside Tavern, and the Tap on Ponce.

And in honor of the anniversary celebration and all that, Good Word Never Sleep IPA is this week’s Beer Pick.

Profile

One of Good Word’s most popular beers, Never Sleep is a hazy, New England IPA that was picked by the Homebrewers Association to be one of its “51 Craft Beer Clone Recipes 2019.”

Described as “juicy without being overly sweet,” it employs multiple additions of Vic Secret and Citra hops, Pilsner and English pale malts, and oats. The result is an opaque 7-percent alcohol beer, with bright tropical aromas, flavors and acidity, a smooth mouthfeel, and minute bitterness.

Pair with

Good Word’s daily menu features plenty of pairing possibilities for Never Sleep, including shrimp empanadas, pork check tacos, and the trout sandwich.
