Just after our patriotic holiday and in time for "National Hot Dog Month" USA Today revealed this infographic that shows the cities with the highest hot dog consumption, courtesy of The National Hot Dog and Sausage Council (who knew there was such a thing!)

America celebrates the hot dog in various ways. There is the World Famous Nathan's International Hot Dog Eating Contest, which always seems to make me nauseous the way those contestants gobble down the dogs.

Other ways we can celebrate- the "Hot Dog Selfie Contest." We're curious to see what can come out of this...

The National Hot Dog and Sausage Council (NHDSC) is celebrating National Hot Dog Month by calling on hot dog fans across America to snap a selfie featuring yourself and a delicious hot dog. Get creative! The most inventive, unique, and distinctive selfie will have the chance to win amazing prizes. Submit your selfie by emailing contest@hot-dog.org, by posting on our Facebook page or on Instagram using #HotDogMonthSelfie. All selfies must be submitted by noon on July 14, 2014. In your submission email, please provide your name, phone number and address.

In January of 2013 we did a round-up of "Best Hot Dogs in Atlanta " where reader's voted for Mike's Hot Dogs and we picked Brandi's World Famous Hot Dogs. Since then, a few other hot dog spots are worth noting.

Marietta's Dogfather Hot Dogs & Brats is praised for its varieties.

A few hot dog food trucks have popped up in the street food culture, including The Pup Truck and Astro Dog.

But perhaps the biggest new kid on the block is Doggy Dog, the food cart that pops up at local farmers markets and breweries. James curates a stellar hot dog menu and teams up with Holeman & Finch buns and Spotted Trotter meat- it's hard to rival the quality of these dogs.

Any other hot dog joints that you crave?
