Last summer, Appa's operated as a Sundays-only pop-up restaurant at the The Cooking School at Irwin Street in Inman Park, with chef David Lee serving up sushi burritos and trendy poké bowls to hungry diners. Now, Appa's will have a permanent home, as it takes up digs among the ethnic eateries on Buford Highway.
Appa's will be located at 5865 Buford Highway, just north of Interstate 285, at the intersection of Buford Highway and Oakcliff Road. Its grand opening is slated for tomorrow, July 1, from noon to 9 p.m.
Appa's is a venture by Lee and his daughter, Judy Oh. While Lee and Oh are Korean by descent, they have a hankering for sushi - with Lee holding more than 20 years of experience as a sushi chef.
The menu will be more expansive than during Appa's pop-up stage. Besides poké bowls and sushi burritos, look for traditional sushi rolls and Japanese sides. Beverage options include fountain drinks and a limited selection of bottled domestic beer.
The restaurant, which takes the space formerly occupied by Korean restaurant Cho and Oak, offers seating for some 50 diners. It will operate daily from noon to 9 p.m.
