Stock Up: 3 food picks for Atlanta shoppers at Ale Yeah Craft Beer Market
The savvy brewmongers of Ale Yeah Craft Beer Market understand that man (and woman) cannot live on beer alone. Hence, the foodstuffs sold alongside all those enticing brown bottles. Among Ale Yeah’s wares are cheese, charcuterie, chowchow and the following three locally-produced yummies:
In truth, we judged these “clouds” by their cover. Pork Clouds’ hip packaging is both cool and hilarious. “Brothers and sisters, join the pork revolution!” reads the chip bag manifesto. “Begun with a brash baconic cry shaking the bland bastion of commodity chippery, a new front emerges . . . Power to the Pork!” Kettle-cooked with olive oil, these pork rinds actually live up to such bluster. They’re light and airy and the Malabar Black Pepper clouds we tried were beyond flavorful. Produced by Atlanta-based Bacon’s Heir, Pork Clouds’ other flavors are Rosemary & Sea Salt, Habanero and Cinnamon Ceylon. $3 per 2-ounce bag.
There are a lot of virtuous pretzels in the world—fat-free and whole grain and dotted with sesame seeds instead of salt. Marietta-made Knotty Pretzels (“The Official Pretzel of Beer”) fall far, far outside this category—gleefully so. The twists are so oil-rich that their consistency is almost pastry-like, but with a resounding crunch. They come in two varieties—Zesty Italian and Hot Wings. These flavors aren’t engineered out of chemicals and orange dye. They’re zingy and balanced and fresh. We’re obsessed. $4.99 per 8-ounce bag.
Lovestuff Five Pepper Sauce
This hot stuff comes from a Decatur operation called the Ground-Up Flavor Company. We like the literal straightforwardness of this name and we love the Five Pepper Sauce. No mere bottle of one-note heat (though be warned, it is hot) the five pepper sauce actually tastes like peppers – fresh and green and bright. $5.99 per 5-ounce bottle.
