Facebook activated its safety check feature after Hurricane Matthew left hundreds of people dead on the island of Haiti.

The feature allows those at risk to connect with their friends and loved ones during disasters like Hurricane Matthew by marking themselves as "safe." It also allows you to check on your own loved ones.

So far, Facebook has the feature activated for the following affected areas:

Affected countries: The Bahamas, Haiti

Affected cities: Sweeting Cay, Green Turtle Cay, Bahamas, High Rock, High Rock, Bahamas, Nassau, New Providence, Freeport, Bahamas, Nicholls Town, Nichollstown And Berry Islands, Bahamas and 13 more.

More than 2 million people in Georgia, Florida and the Carolinas are under mandatory evacuation orders after Hurricane Matthew killed hundreds in Haiti and forced millions along the Atlantic coast to flee from their homes.

Though Hurricane Matthew was downgraded from a Category 4 to Category 3 overnight, the storm is expected to strengthen and forecasts are expecting up to 14 inches of rain along Georgia's coast.

In addition, traffic on Interstate 16 was being redirected eastbound to allow residents to evacuate and Delta canceled more than 400 flights due to the tropical storm.
