Put away that sweater.

Atlanta reached 87 degrees Thursday afternoon, surpassing an 86-year-old record.

That record high for this day, set in 1931, was 86 degrees, according to Channel 2 Action News.

The current temperature is 85 degrees.

“It’s a gorgeous start to the evening,” Channel 2 meteorologist Brad Nitz said. “Even though it’s much warmer, the humidity is lower than (Wednesday).”

But beautiful skies won’t last.

Cooler air should enter Atlanta on Friday, when there is a 20 percent chance of rain. Isolated showers should hit the metro area by 5 p.m.

Temperatures should not reach record-breaking highs, but expect summer-like weather to stay.
