Here are five things to know about the Falcons on Thursday:

1. A moment of silence: One of the original Falcons and former broadcaster Alex Hawkins died at the age of 80 in Columbia, S.C. on Tuesday. News of the passing was confirmed by Jim Keith of Keith Funeral and Cremation Services in Hilton Head, S.C. We'll call Mr. Keith back today to see if the services have been set.

2. Practice: The Falcons have meetings in the morning and a walk-through indoors before hitting the outdoor fields for practice at 2:20 p.m.

3. Schweitzer feeling the heat. (Fire emoji) Falcons right guard Wes Schweitzer plans to step his game up this week. He's clearly looking forward to second game and trying to block out the media noise.

4. Gritz Blitz dissed by Sporting News. The Jacksonville Jaguars set a franchise record for sacks in a game with their Week 1 performance against the Houston Texans. The 10 sacks and three forced fumbles, earned the Jags the moniker of "Sacksonville." The Sporting News took the chance to list the "NFL's 10 best-ever defensive nicknames."

5. Check out The Bow Tie Chronicles. The podcast for everything you need to know about the Atlanta Falcons. In the fifth episode we discuss how coaching rookies is like smoking a turkey. Both projects require a great deal of patience.  (Psst, please subscribe)
