The Falcons signed former University of Georgia decathlete Garrett Scantling to a free-agent contract Monday.

He’ll try to make the team as a wide receiver.

He worked out for NFL teams at Jacksonville University’s Pro Day in March.

Scantling, who last played football in high school in Jacksonville, won the Bulldog Decathlon in 2015 with a school- and facility-record score of 8,232 points, thanks in part of wins in the 100-meter dash (10.85), high jump (6 feet, 9 inches), shot put (49-5) and javelin (220-11).

He played football for Episcopal High and caught 66 passes for more than 1,200 yards and 13 touchdowns as a senior.
