After suffering a knee injury in the Falcons’ win over the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday, coach Dan Quinn said Adrian Clayborn is expected back at the team’s practice facility in Flowery Branch on Wednesday night.

“Injury-wise he’ll be back with us tonight, and then we’re just going to work like crazy from the rehab standpoint to get him back,” Quinn said Wednesday. “You never like to see a player have to have a surgery, but in this case it was good news because he thought it was going to be a season ender. When it wasn’t, he was thrilled and we were too.”

Clayborn posted on Twitter on Tuesday night that "Surgery went great. Time to attack this recovery so I can get back out there with my brothers!"

During Clayborn’s absence, Quinn said defensive Dwight Freeney and linebackers Brooks Reed and Courtney Upshaw will split Clayborns’ reps.

“As far as a timetable (on Clayborn’s return to practice), we’re not gonna put one on him and say it’s this time or this time,” Quinn said. “Let’s take it through the first part of the rehab process and see how he does, but we are very encouraged that we don’t see it as a long-term injury.”

Clayborn, a sixth-year defensive end out of Iowa, has 29 total tackles, 4.5 sacks and one fumble recovery so far this season.
