Comments from Georgia Tech forward Quinton Stephens, center Ben Lammers and guard Josh Okogie following the Yellow Jackets’ 74-66 win over Ole Miss in an NIT quarterfinal matchup

QUINTON STEPHENS

“Our goal for this game was really to jump on ’em. I think we did a good job of that. They’re a good team. They’re here for a reason. The crowd was great. I feel like I fed off some of their energy personally, but I think we had a lot of fun. We played real tough this game. We made some plays that we didn’t usually make when we had away games. I think that was the big difference.”

On his second-half 3-pointer:

“It felt good. I was talking to my dad before the game, talking about playing away, the best feeling is probably making the crowd go quiet. I had fun. They just went silent and that was probably my favorite part of the game.”

BEN LAMMERS

On shooting 9-for-11:

“Every game is little bit different. The shot’s always the same, but sometimes my legs aren’t into it, my form’s a little off. This was a game where it just started off great. I was able to ride that for a while.”

On going to New York:

“It’s obviously great. People didn’t expect a whole lot from this team going into the season, so this is a great statement saying that we’re a great team. Hopefully, we can continue out this season on a win streak and continue it on to next season.”

On Ole Miss’ defense:

“Their 1-3-1 was great. It was tough for us, obviously. Even the times we’d break it, we wore off, like, 15 seconds off the shot clock. Once we got used to it, we were able to break it a little bit, but we practiced it a little bit, but it’s hard to get it just right the way they do it.”

JOSH OKOGIE

On defending without fouling:

“We just stayed in the gaps. We limited the amount of times they were able to get to the hoop, and we tried to limit the amount of touches their big man could get and Ben did a great job of walling up, not fouling. He was able to block shots. They were trying to initiate contact. We did a good job of staying home.”

“People said we weren’t going to win one ACC game. It just shows how much hard work pays off. We worked our butts off in the weight room, in the gym. We did extra workouts, we just stayed in the gym, we just trusted one another, and it’s just great. Just get our seniors to make this trip one more time. We couldn’t get them to the NCAA Tournament, so I’m just glad that they’re going to be able to experience this before they head off.”
