The commitment of kicker and former Old Dominion commit Brenton King on Monday at 2:30 p.m. solved the problem of the decommitment of former commit and kicker Joseph Bulovas at 12:20 p.m.

King, a 6-foot, 165 pound senior from Mill Creek High School, received a call on Monday afternoon from Tech coach Paul Johnson and defensive coordinator Ted Roof.

“They offered me a preferred walk on earlier in the year and then they offered the full ride (on Monday),” King said. “It took about 10 seconds (to accept.)”

With his acceptance of the offer, King became the 20th member of Tech’s 2017 signing class. He also was the Yellow Jackets’ second commit and second flip of the day after UCF commit and defensive tackle Antwan Owens announced he would become a Yellow Jacket earlier on Monday evening.

King, from Hoschton, Ga., announced his commitment to Tech in a statement released on Twitter on Monday evening writing in part, “I am honored to say that I have re-decided my future plans. I will be attending Georgia Tech to (further) my football and academic career.”

King’s name was on the top of the list of replacements for Bulovas because over the summer, King attended a try out camp with Tech and Roof.

“(The camp went) really, really well,” King said. “That’s why when their committed kicker left, that’s why they called me (the same day.)”

Since the camp, King decided he wanted to spend the next four years at Georgia Tech, but he was only offered a preferred walk-on spot, just like he was at Georgia. When Old Dominion offered a full-ride scholarship in December, King knew he couldn’t pass it up and verbally committed on Dec. 13.

Finally committed to an in-state school that’s closer to home, the kicker is most excited about playing under Roof and Johnson who he developed respect for during his summer kicking camp at Tech.

“I’m excited to kick with Coach Roof because I guess I created a bond with him,” King said. “I think it’s the most important thing on any football team is if you can respect your head coach and from everything I’ve seen and heard everyone loves the head coach there and they really respect him greatly.”
