Former Georgia Tech star Marcus Georges-Hunt will sign with the Orlando Magic for the remainder of the season.

Georges-Hunt will join the team for its final five regular-season games, a good friend of Georges-Hunt’s confirmed. An Orlando Sentinel article reported on Sunday that the signing appeared likely.

“I’d say it’s definitely for sure,” said Shawn Fowler, a Tech donor and graduate who had communicated with Georges-Hunt Sunday.

Georges-Hunt signed a 10-day contract with the Miami Heat in February but did not play and was not re-signed to a second 10-day deal. He returned to the Maine Red Claws, the NBA Development League team where he has been playing this season. The Magic will not make the playoffs. With the Magic out of contention for the postseason, it would seem likely that they would give Georges-Hunt an audition for next season.

The Sentinel’s report indicated that the team might also sign Georges-Hunt to a non-guaranteed deal for the 2017-18 season, which would commit him to playing for the Magic’s summer-league team before he could field offers to play for any other NBA team’s summer-league team.

Georges-Hunt, who went undrafted after making All-ACC as a senior last season, finished the regular season with the Red Claws on Saturday. He averaged 15.8 points, 6.2 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game.

Orlando will not play the Hawks in its final five games.
