Georgia Tech B-back C.J. Leggett was dismissed from the football team for a violation of team rules. The announcement was made Thursday by the school.

Leggett did not play in his first two seasons on campus, redshirting in 2014 and missing the 2015 season after tearing his ACL in spring practice. He competed for a spot on the depth chart at B-back in the spring as his recovery from his knee injury continued.

Reached by phone, Leggett acknowledged the dismissal, declining to specify the reason, but termed his departure a mutual decision to part ways. He also provided a statement.

“I am deeply grateul to my coaches and all the football and academic staff at GT,” the statement read. “After being redshirted and recovering from injury last year, I have had time to evaluate and reflect and have decided that GT was not the best fit for me. I have decided to transfer to pursue other opportunities. I’m looking forward to a bright future both academically and athletically at another institution.”

Leggett was a highly regarded prospect coming out of North Gwinnett High in 2014. He came close to playing in 2014, but the production of B-backs Zach Laskey and Synjyn Days preserved his redshirt.

Leggett has three seasons of eligibility remaining. He could play immediately if he were to transfer to an FCS school. If he transferred to an FBS school, he would have to sit out another season and have two seasons left to play.
