Braves utility man Danny Santana doesn’t have the contagious infection in his leg that had been feared, and he’s expected to rejoin the team Monday.

That’s the first day he’s eligible to come off the 10-day disabled list. Santana was placed on the DL during the last series before the All-Star break after he developed an infection in his calf that didn’t respond to treatment while the Braves were in Washington.

Concerned that it could be contagious, the Braves sent Santana back to Atlanta and had him examined. Tests showed it wasn’t a staph infection or other highly contagious infection, and Santana was cleared to play. He took part in the Braves’ off-day workout Thursday before the resumption of the season following the break.

Santana, who was playing well at the plate and in the field before going on the DL, was to begin a brief injury-rehab assignment with Triple-A Gwinnett on Friday, Braves manager Brian Snitker said.

“Everything’s taken care of and he’s cleared as long as he keeps the couple of spots covered,” Snitker said. “So that’s good.”
