Some of baseball’s oldest pitchers have been Braves

A Braves pitcher taking the mound their 40s isn’t as rare as you think. Here are some of the more recent older hurlers.

A 42-year-old Gaylord Perry signed on with the Braves 11 wins short of 300 . He went 8-9 with a 3.94 ERA in 23 starts. Perry won 314 games and struck out 3,524 batters over a 22-year career that included the one-year stop in Atlanta.

The Dodgersâ Tommy John, whose throwing arm was repaired in a radical operation in 1974, pitches during his first victory since July 1974, as he downed Pittsburgh, Monday, April 29, 1976 in Los Angeles.
