2017 schedule: Braves play 8 on road, then home opener April 14

The Braves will open the 2017 with a three-city, eight-game road trip before their much-anticipated home opener April 14 at SunTrust Park against the San Diego Padres. First pitch is set for 7:35 p.m. for that first regular-season game at the new ballpark on a Friday night.

Before they face the Padres at their new Cobb County digs, the Braves will have already spent 10 days on the road. They open the season April 3 at New York’s Citi Field and will play three-game road series against the Mets (April 3-6, with April 4 off day in case of rain) and Pirates (April 7-9) and a two-game series at Miami (April 11-12).

The April 14 home opener starts at seven-game, seven-day homestand at SunTrust that includes four games against the Padres (April 14-17) and three against the rival Washingon Nationals (April 18-20).

Then it’s back on the road for the Braves, who have another three-city, nine-game trip to Philadelphia, New York and Milwaukee that will make it 17 road games in the first 23 games of the season for the Braves, including six against the Mets in New York.

The second homestand at the new ballpark isn’t until May 1-7, a seven-game stand that includes four games against those Mets and three against the St. Louis Cardinals.

The Braves’ eight interleague series include 10 games in four home series against the Toronto Blue Jays (May 17-18), Houston Astros (July 4-5), Seattle Mariners (Aug. 21-23) and Texas Rangers (Sept. 4-6).

Their road interleague schedule includes 10 games in four series at Houston (May 9-10), Toronto (May 15-16), Los Angeles Angels (May 29-31) and Oakland June 30-July 2).

The Braves’ so-called “traditional rivalry” games against the Boston Red Sox, which had become an annual thing in recent years, aren’t on the schedule this season.

The final homestand of the 2017 season is a nine-gamer against the Mets (Sept. 15-17), Nationals (Sept. 19-21) and Phillies (Sept. 22-24) before the Braves finish the season on the road with three games against the Mets at New York (Sept. 25-27) and four at Miami (Sept. 28-Oct. 1).
